General Rules for all Competitions

Photographic Competitions are open to Club Members only. In respect of competitions (a) – (c) eight ‘rolling score competitions’ will be held during the Club year, of which not more than 2 may be designated as ‘Set Subjects’.  These set subjects will be published in the programme and set by the Committee.

Should any decision of entry be questioned, the ruling of the Committee shall be obtained immediately and its decision will be final.

Competitions (a) – (c) will be based on an accumulation of marks gained through the Club year.  A Members annual score being a total of their best fourteen (14) marks.

Entries: For maximum sizes for each Competition please see under individual headings.

All entries may be home or trade processed.

When the set subject is ‘two or three related photographs’ the two or three photos will count as one entry.

For Competitions (d) – (i) see individual entries.

Digital work

Digitally produced images may be entered in any suitable Competition; however, all elements of the finished work must be the copyright of the entrant. All digital work for projection must be forwarded to the club Competition Secretary not later than 7 days prior to competition night in JPEG format and no larger than 1400 x 1050 pixels. The work may be submitted via CD, DVD, memory stick or memory card. The club can not be held responsible for the loss of any of the above equipment. Alternatively the images may be emailed to the Competitions Secretary. (Email address to be found on the web site or programme).  A registration form must still be completed and handed to the club recorder on the night that the images are due to be shown. It is the responsibility of the individual photographer to complete his or her entry form. Failure to do so will mean that the awarded marks will not be recorded and will not therefore be included in any rolling competition.

 Registration

All entries must be handed to the Club Recorder with completed registration form before the start of judging. (Digital projection workers should see above).  Judging is deemed to have started as soon as the judge has been invited to preview the submitted work which will be no later than 19.40 hrs.

Judging

In the event of a judge failing to appear, the Committee can exercise various options:-

1)            Asking a Club Member to officiate.

2)            Asking Members present to mark the work by issuing marking sheets and calculating the average mark for each entry.

3)            Abandoning the Competition and use the evening as a ‘viewing’ with Members invited to give a short commentary on their work.  Entries would then be       allowed to go forward to future Competitions.

Annual Print Competition

Eligibility :- Any Club Member

 Format :- Film or digital

 Maximum Size :-

The entry will not exceed 40 x 50 cms.   This will include whatever mount the photographer has chosen to use.   In respect of multi images that have been ‘stitched’ together, the maximum size of 40 x 50 cms. may be exceeded but will not be eligible for SAPA and SPF Competitions.   A ‘stitched’ print will be classed as one entry in respect of RCC Competition marking.

Processing :-The work may be home or trade processed.

Entries :- Up to three entries per evening per Competition.   The rear of each must be clearly marked with the title of the Competition it is being entered in for.

However, an original source may be used to produce another improved print fur further Competition, in order that Members can take advantage of constructive criticism from judges and fellow Members.

A print made from a previously entered digital projected image may be used in a future Club Competition.

Annual Digital Projected Image Competition

Eligibility :- Any Member

 Format :- Film or digital

To enter your images for the digital projection section of the Ringwood Camera Club competitions, please follow the instructions set out below - this will make collating the entries straightforward and also ensure that your entries do not get missed.

 Resize Image

Resize your image using your existing image manipulation software, if you are unsure how to do this please ask one of the committee or other club members for help.

Please use the following MAXIMUM sizes:

The maximum size of your image must not exceed:

1400 x 1050 pixels  (W x H)

 Resolution:

At least 72dpi - commonly referred to as 'screen resolution' when viewing images on a computer screen.

The sizes shown below are for guidance and cover the 'standard' 4:3 image aspect ratio of many digital cameras

            Landscape:      1400 x 1050 pixels  (W x H)

            Portrait:             788 x 1050 pixels (W x H)

If your pictures are smaller in height (landscape) or width (portrait) it will not matter. For instance if you are going for a panoramic or square image it will have to be smaller!  It will not matter if the images are smaller in both dimensions, all that will happen is that the image will be smaller on the screen - (This may cause the image to lose impact or detail though).

The software the club uses will import images that are larger but will crop them - if they are too big the software will reject them.

Save the file using the following format, otherwise this will result in your pictures not being picked up by the database system and not be shown.

               Author_Image Name_NA.jpg

Your name   Title of the work   Type NA (UP case)  JPEG format

Spaces are allowed in the author and title fields

i.e. John Smith_My Picture_NA.jpg

The underscore between fields is obtained by using the 'hyphen + shift' keys together, the hyphen key is between the 0/) and +/= keys on a UK PC keyboard.

Entries can either be submitted by e-mail NO LATER than the Tuesday before the competition or if using any of the formats other than e-mail, the CD’s, sticks or cards should be given to Trevor or any committee member at the preceding club night.

E-mail entries may be submitted up to 7 days prior to the competition night.

Entries received after the two cut off dates will not be considered and will have to be re-submitted. It will be the photographer’s responsibility to re-submit the entry within the correct time frame.
