Corfe Common

Directions : Take chain ferry across Poole Harbour entrance. Then follow road to Y-junction just past Studland Village. Take right hand fork to Corfe. At Corfe Castle T-junction turn left towards Swanage and drive through Corfe village. On the right hand side at the end of the village are a number of cottages on the right hand side of a turning with a field on the left. In front of the field is a gate with parking for 2 or 3 cars. DO NOT OBSTRUCT THE GATE. Park here and walk along the main road towards Swanage. About 30 yards along this road, on the left hand side, is a gate and foot path sign, follow this to the common.

Photo Interest : Good views along a slight incline with Corfe Castle in the background. Sun is in a good position for most of the day. Small brick bridge gives a different perspective when facing South, although the engines are not working hard at this point. North facing with Castle in background gives more steam. as the trains leave Corfe Station on an up gradient.

Drawbacks : The common is used for grazing and can contain nosey cattle, they like to chew the insides of camera bags left unattended. It is also very muddy and icy during the winter and there is little or no shelter from the rain and wind. Boots are a MUST.
