Hythe Ferry

Directions : As for Goatee Beach and Calshot. Turn left on A326 as signposted. Drive through Hythe passing pier on left and use large car park by the Church. This is covered by the Hampshire Clock Parking Permit. Walk back to pier for Hythe Ferry (approximately £3.00 return). Ferry runs half hourly to Southampton. Train ride included in ferry price. Reduction for O.A.P's.

Photo Interest : Ferry passes right by QE dock and is a cheap way to photograph buildings, cranes and river traffic plus cruise liners using the dock. Stay on right hand side of ferry on way out and left hand side on return. P.M. is better than A.M. if taking photographs in strong light. The ferry is open in the centre but has a roof so rain is not much of a problem. Round trip is about 1hr 10mins. Wading birds available at low tide from pier - pays to walk back from boat if you want to 'shoot' the birds. There is also a walk way at the rear of the shopping area that affords views of the liners leaving their moorings. You can also shoot the oldest pier train in the UK which looks like a garden shed pulling some Victorian carriages,...Brilliant! Plenty of eating places in Hythe town centre.
